O mankind! We created you from male and female, and made you into nations and tribes, so that you may come to know one another. Truly, the most honoured of you in God's sight is the greatest of you in piety. God is All-Knowing, All-Aware. (Qur'an, 49:13)

What is it all about?

/Network:
The "Network of Ethiopian Muslims in Europe" (NEME) is an initiative of brothers from different parts of Europe with the objective of bring together Ethiopian Muslim Communities and individuals of the various European Countries. It is also the mission of NEME to help set up such a community in countries where there is none yet.

It works for a better Ethiopia where all its citizens enjoy justice, equal right and opportunity in all sphers of life be it social, economical or political.

/Website:
Beyond its immediate goal of serving as platform to bring together Ethiopian Muslim Communities of the various European countries, the Network of Ethiopian Muslims in Europe (NEME) website is hoped to benefit all its visitors by presenting information on Islam and Ethiopian Muslims.

It has been the official stand of the various leader to portray Ethiopia as a "Christian Nation". To date it is understood and promoted by many as such though the fact is that Muslims are the majority (Islam: 45-50% and Christianity: 35-40%).

The history of Ethiopians has also been presented in such a way that it merely represents one group of community and holds one faith suprime. When Islam and Muslims are mentioned, they are presented as "externals", "nuisance" and "a threat" to the existence of the kingdom. In this respect, the site will devote itself to what is true and real about all Ethiopians :

by bringing up what is missing - Islamic history of Ethiopia and the history and contributions of the society that constitutes more than half of the country's population

and

by correcting what is not true - a history that keeps Ethiopia detached from her children by denying their very existence.

Further, despite the page is primarely meant to serve as a link for Ethiopian Muslims in Europe, it is at the same time hoped to serve the whole of the Muslim community. It is our belief that this site will provide us a medium to learn more about ourselves and our Islamic identity, and coordinate our efforts for a common better future.

As you all know it is obligatory on all Muslims, men and women, to work for the cause of Islam and betterment of Muslims. It is this fact that urged us to prepare a medium that we believe would enable us communicate and discuss issues pertinent to our community.

/Its Call:
In this respect we call upon individual Muslims and communities in Europe to join and participate actively in the activities of NEME. Your participation and contribution is of vital importance for making this Network effective and interesting place for all Ethiopians.

NEME calls upon all Ethiopian Muslims too to take active participation through writing articles, contributing Islamic materials like, historic documents, pictures, calligraphy, news etc ... which have strong relevance to Ethiopian Muslims.

Despite our primary targets are the Muslim community and its interest, we at the same time welcome contributions from all Ethiopians irrespective of their belief.
